As part of the Green Impact Zone’s Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program, seven homeowners have received the initial energy audits to determine what weatherization work will be done to their homes. Two of those homes are already scheduled to have the work completed!

Weatherization work includes caulking to seal air leaks; adding insulation to floors, walls and attics; cleaning and tuning of furnaces and air conditioners; and water heater upgrades and pipe insulation. In these two homes, the program will also replace the homeowners’ furnaces.

The Mid-America Regional Council received $4.5 million in federal stimulus funds from the Department of Energy and Missouri Department of Natural Resources to weatherize homes in the Green Impact Zone and the surrounding area. Under the program, 659 homes will be weatherized, which will lower residents’ utility usage and help the environment.
