Today, we say goodbye to the 18 young people, ages 18 to 24, who are finishing up the Full Employment Council’s Green Ways to Green Careers Summer Youth Employment Program at the Green Impact Zone. Based at the Pioneer Community College since August 23, the program provided participants with an opportunity to learn about green careers and everyday green practices as well as the chance to go out in the neighborhood to help us share information about upcoming events and programs, including the Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program and KCP&L Smart Grid demonstration project.

Over the six-week period, the youth also participated in a wide variety of job skills workshops that will enable them to be better prepared for their next job assignment. Several of them will embark on new employment opportunities within the Green Impact Zone or with other companies after the program ends.

We are excited about the future of these young people and thoroughly enjoyed being a Green Ways to Green Careers work site.
